The MTA is showng just how bad it manages its business or come to that if it manages it all. The proposed fare rises and re-scheduleing is an admission of its failure and lack of ideas to fix a problem that they have brought on themselves. The trains themselves are a joke, filthy, windows scratched, commuters that use it as an overnight doss house, daytime commuters that use it as a mobile diner, bringing their food to consume on the train and leaving the smelly rubbish behind when they leave…….. Its a disgrace. The MTA should ask themselves what the ssem is all about and who the main users are and for what purpose. Maybe I can enlighten them somewhat. I make 4 trips a day from Queens to manhatten and return naturally so I see the trains at different times of the day and the difference in the type of commuters. Does anyone from the MTA ever take the time to do this and get some idea the needs and possible wastage. I bet they dont. The easy fix is always to put up the fares and cut the service, job done. The commuter pays for the MTA’s inneficiency. So why not look a little deeper into better ways to manage the situation and bring things into perspective. The “Rush Hour” is exactly what it says commuters rushing to get to their places of employment and believe me there is no comfort in the trip. Maybe you can get a seat but thats in the lap of the gods but that goes with the territory. Thes commuters are heading to a place of employment and that place is a place that makes a profit from there being employed there. Wouldnt t be more just for the employers to contribute to the system which their employees have to use to get to work. Would it not make more sense that you get the money from those that can afford it or at least have it. The billions of dollars that is needed to operate the system and the losses that are obviously occuring must show up and can be pinpointed to a particular area or areas so what are they and where are they. Tell us. Retraining of the guards might be a good idea, announcements are a joke, closing the doors seems to be a task thats played as a game to try and close the doors while commuters are still trying to get off and then try and trap anyone trying to get on. The MTA system is undoubtably in a mess and so are the people that run it. Make a start, prohibit food on trains, let people eat it where they buy it. If you are going to cu services then create a timetable to stick to so people dont have to stand on a station platform and pray for a train to come. Let them KNOW when its coming, better co-ordinate transfers from one train to another. Not five “E” and “F” trains arriving at Roosevelt and trying to fit on one “R or “V” train. Encourage weekend commuters to use the system by inceasing the service not having cliens standing around not knowing when a train is coming at anytime. Start getting professional and earn the wages you get. Mr Bloomberg you are not worthy of another term you are losing your leadership direction for the people of New York unless maybe you want to be a train guard that is. Cancelling trains is not an option and only goes to show how incompetent the MTA administration is.
